Five Chinese nationals and a Pakistani driver have been killed after a suicide attacker rammed his explosive-laden vehicle into their convoy near Besham city in northwest Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The incident happened on Tuesday when the convoy was on its way from Islamabad to Dasu, the site of a key hydroelectric dam being constructed by a Chinese company, about 270km (167 miles) from the capital.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has stated, “We will not allow nefarious attempts to harm Pakistan and China’s friendship to succeed.” According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif visited the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad on Tuesday and expressed condolences to the Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zedong over the killing of five Chinese nationals in the terrorist attack in Bisham.

On Tuesday, five Chinese citizens, including six individuals, were killed in a blast near Bisham in the Shangla district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. On this occasion, he said, “We will continue the war against terrorism until its complete eradication. The government will conduct high-level inquiries into the Bisham incident and ensure that the responsible and facilitators are brought to justice.”

Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ataullah Tarar, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi were also present with the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister said, “The entire nation stands in solidarity with the Chinese families.” During his conversation with the Chinese Ambassador, the Prime Minister also sent condolence messages to the Chinese President and Prime Minister regarding the incident.

China has demanded a comprehensive investigation into the terrorist attack in which Chinese engineers were killed in a suicide attack near Bisham city in the Shangla district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy said in a statement on Tuesday that “the embassy and consulate strongly condemn the terrorist attack. They express condolences to the affected people of both countries.”The Chinese Embassy has demanded that “Pakistani authorities conduct a thorough investigation into the attack.”

The spokesperson further said, “Chinese citizens and companies in Pakistan should pay close attention to the local security situation.”
